What job can I do when I have social phobia?

I think I have social phobia and I know I need to get that sorted but in the meantime I need a job to earn a living. I get too nervous or sometimes scared around people that I can’t think straight and I mess things up. I’m sure people think I have a low IQ.
I wish to be a published writer someday. I can’t drive but I’m learning. I have basic computer and website design skills.
What job can I do?
I don’t feel confident enough to work with too many people. I feel there would be a few people working in the Argos stockroom.

You need to see a doctor…psychiatrist…OK..I am also not a people friendly person…but If I want to study or get my dream job I will do in my way…In my opinion try starting conversations with people around you..your friends ,relatives etc.If you can get through it then you need a professional help. Some says breathing exercises are good in times of anxiety….Meditations are also said to be necessary in some situations..

Why don’t you write right now? Sounds like you already have a story to tell plus I would buy your book.
Your skills do not require close contact with people – can you create a business designing websites from home ore build on the skills you have to design online games from home.
Medical transcription can be done from home too.

Social phobia can be cured — you should seek professional help for that. You may not have a low IQ but maybe people think so because you are afraid of them.

Anyway, based on the skills you have mentioned you might want to try a freelance online job such as article writing, website design, etc. You can even work from home on the internet without meeting people face-to-face. Elance, ScriptLance, and many other websites offer freelance jobs for article writers and web designers.

As far as self publishing is concerned, I think "Amazon Self Publishing" and "Lulu" are good options.

I would say confront your social phobia.

Take a job as a waitress or a cashier that forces you to interact with people. The more you interact with people, you will eventually see there is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to people. And your social phobia will eventually disappear. I’ve been around complete jerks before, but I have noticed that the majority of people on this Earth are nice and will be nice to you if you just smile first. It may be frightening at first, but just try it. Plus waitress earn A LOT!

On the writing side, start a blog writing whatever you want to. Get some ads on it to generate some money. There are website out there that will print/publish your work – and you can get a paperback or hard cover version of your book. And just like that, you will be a published author!

I have exactly the same problem:
when I go to talk to people my words come out all jumbled and I go really quiet and stupid looking.
when I have to pay for something at a till or talk to someone one in a shop or in public I go shakey and my heart beats really fast etc etc…
I think for me this is because I have hid away from everyone and don’t really go out I’ve lost basically all of my friends because of it and find it really hard to make new ones because people think I’m pathetic because of the way I act around them – and I Have to go to college soon so I have to start mixing with people.
Anyway what I have found is the more I go out and the better I get I’m still like it but I’m slowwwwwwwwly getting there – so just get whatever job you want to get and gradually you will start to get more confident and in a while you wont eve understand why were like it. I understand where Your coming from and I also understand that no-body else understands it so you may feel alone.
Hope This Helps and Good Luck :D

Sorry this is really long by the way.
