Do they make medicine for social anxiety disorder/chronic shyness?

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

I have finally admitted to myself that I have social anxiety disorder. It has kept me from having any kind of social or dating life. I have it bad. I need to know if there is any kind of medicine that can help me act like a normal 22-year old male.

Awh AJ, I’m so sorry you’re going throught this. I do too, and can really relate to and understand it, The thing I find that works for me is just getting out there (cold turkey), meeting people, being ‘myself’ and believing that I am on level with these ppl. I know the ease of mind doesn’t happen instantly but in time you’ll feel wanted, desired, needed (These feelings help more than anything) Getting over it is not that simple either, that’s just a minute part of it. You’ve just got to realise your importance and worth in this world, not only that, but if you could see yourself the way others see you.. you would really love yourself for who you are. Please see

that "why be him, when you can be the best so easily?!"
Email me to discuss your feelings more. I feel exactly the way that you do now. I have good days and bad days. Some days I think I’V conquered it and then the next day I’m back where I started… but with a bit of communication from my nearest and dearest, it really helps. I don’t have them everyday though so I need to get over it, help myself. Pls email me, Rly want to
talk to you. I know you see it as a huge thing! Well of course it
is,it’s YOU. I do too sometimes, but with a bit of confidence and a positive outlook, you can easily get over it and happily express yourself. email me. Love Caz xoxo

Do doctors prescribe alcohol for social anxiety disorder?

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

My friend told me that a lot of doctors have started prescribing alcohol to treat social anxiety disorder. He says he has a prescription for bacardi rum and that is why he is always drinking it. Is this true or is he pulling my leg?

I don’t think your friend is telling the truth.

I never heard of a doctor prescribing alcohol for anxiety.

It’s probably a joke.

Game idea for presentation about social anxiety disorder?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Can anyone think of a good game/some way to involve the class that I can include in my 20 minute presentation? I already have a question at the beginning that people can raise their hands for. It’s by myself, and I don’t want to just give everyone a quiz on if they have social anxiety disorder or not because a lot of people already did stuff like that in their own presentations. Any ideas? thanks!

"Two Truths and a Lie."

Each person called on by the speaker (you) tells two truths about themselves… and a lie… in any order. Then people raise their hand and say which one thing they thought was the lie. It’s funny because some of the oddest things turn out to be true… and some of the most believable are the lie.

Mine is "I have 7 children, I am an internet-ordained minister and I was born in Belgium."

I’ve never actually been to Belgium :)

How can someone be treated for social anxiety disorder?

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Think about it for a second before you answer… wouldn’t they be too afraid of even making an appointment with someone or talking to a doctor about it to tell them what’s going on? I mean, I’m terrified of talking to anyone, so I don’t know, maybe I have social anxiety disorder, but "anyone" includes doctors and everything, so there’s no way in hell I could ever work up the nerve to actually tell anyone that in real life. I can’t even deal with calling a friend on the phone to ask about a homework assignment, let alone a complete stranger to make an appointment to talk about something that’s actually embarassing! So what I don’t get is how anyone can actually be diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, cause it seems to me that if they made it as far as being diagnosed then the probably don’t have it.
Ok, everyone so far has pretty much missed the point. I’m actually perfectly happy most of the time to be alone, but the point is that if I DID want to get treated for "social anxiety disorder," I wouldn’t be able to because it would make me too nervous, and if I could do it then I wouldn’t have need to be treated in the first place. Get it?

You can go to the doctor and explain it to him or her. They will prescribe medicine for it. A friend of mine takes some anxiety meds and it makes her feel more at ease.

I have social anxiety disorder, but I would really like to meet some nice lesbians my age. Suggestions?

Friday, November 27th, 2009

I don’t know how, but I want to meet some lesbians who are my age in real life. This is very hard for me, because I have social anxiety disorder, which makes it hard for me to socialize with anyone. There aren’t any lesbigay youth groups in my city, and I’m currently home schooled… Any idea what I should do?

social anxiety disorder? SHY? Find a chat group and let yourself go and eventually you will hook up with some kids in your hood….relax and be yourself…they are nervous too.

just saw this….Try TransDyke, a Yahoo group. You must be 18 of course.

Can Social Anxiety Disorder be overcome?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

I don’t mean just the normal shyness and anxiety people feel sometimes; i mean the actual clinical, medical disorder of Social Anxiety in which you are constantly socially anxious. Has this been shown to be possible to greatly reduce or eliminate it? I must overcome it.

My bf is taking medications for anxiety right now and seems to be doing ok, you will need alot of strength and willingness to go as far as the treatment takes you, don’t let the fear control you!!
You can overcome this all you need is self willingness and you will make it!

Why is it that I have social anxiety disorder?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I may have social anxiety disorder. I can’t function right when I go to the mall or other largely crowded spaces. :/

Why is that? It’s annoying.

paranoia, perhaps. happens to me, too, like every ones watching me or like they know something I dont about myself, etc

How do you treat social anxiety disorder is there hope?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I have had social anxiety disorder for years but the doctors always told me I was just shy which was untrue it was much more than that.I do not have a job not that many friends dont even drive yet due to this .I want to get help and I am just wondering if there is any way to treat this or at least make it tolerable and let me live finally. If you want to make fun of this go right ahead but unless you actually deal with this you have no idea how difficult or hard it is to live with.

You’ve gotten good advice so far, i would also remind yourself that its nothing to be embarrassed about, your probably gonna feel a lot better once you get through it, just remind yourself that you have nothing to be anxious about and that people are good, eventually it will sink in and that will be your automatic sub-conscious :)

Could moving a lot during your childhood cause social anxiety disorder?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I have lived in seven states and went to four high schools and I’m only 19. Could this be enough to cause social anxiety disorder?

It most definitely could be the main contributary factor to forming your scoial anxiety disorder. There are a few factors that can cause this disorder: Biological- you can be born with a quicker arousal system that can contribute to anxiety disorders, Environmental- Unfair or over-criticism, scrutinization, children learn from parents so if a child speaks and gets unfairly scrutinized, they will be less likely to engage in social situations for fear of negative criticism, moving house has a huge effect when your a teenager because from the age of around 10-18 a lot of changes occur and teenagers try to find their identity by relating and responding to their surroundings and peers/friends. We learn from other teenagers what’s normal behaviour and what’s not so without a solid home life and a longstanding secure place to grow up, you will be bound to be left feeling unsure, not being able to relate to others your age, finding it hard to socialize etc. There are many good programmes and treatments for soical anxiety mostly based around the CBT model that are very effective
