Would Cognitive Behavioral Therapy help someone with anxiety and Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome?

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

From wikipedia, it would seem so:

CBT treatments have received empirical support for efficient treatment of a variety of clinical and non-clinical problems, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse disorders, and psychotic disorders. It is often brief and time-limited. It is used in individual therapy as well as group settings, and the techniques are also commonly adapted for self-help applications.

You should definitely consult your physician or doctor before embarking on any programs, they would know what to do.

For what disorders is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy contra-indicated?

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Any help would be appreciated!

CBT works for many things. The only thing I can think of that would be contr-indicated would be when CBT does not work and there is a need for motivational interviewing because the client is not ready to change. Instead, they need to build some motivation for change. Another one would be if a person dwells on the CBT too much and it makes the condition worse, such as anxiety. In this case, I would do some work on acceptance by using ACT. Really, CBT usually is the best. If a person is in need of simply supportive therapy and becomes frustrated when a therapist teaches CBT, then listening and being there for the client would be the best option.

In the 4th session of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

By the fourth session what would you be discussing?

That’s an almost impossible question to answer, it depends on what the problem is and how the therapist client relationship has progressed.

Which one is better Freudian Psychoanalysis therapy or Humanistic and Cognitive-Behavioral therapies?

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Can you please give an opinion?Thank you!

It comes down to personal opinions, though most psychiatrists agree that an eclectic mix is probably the best. I personally don’t think too much of the Humanistic, and prefer the genetic and behavioral analyses. Freud’s theories still hold a surprising amount of water, provided you tend to disregard his dream analysis theories.

Cognitive behavioral therapy has not helped me?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

What is the next step to cure my ill mind full of fear and depression?

Have you tried dialectical behavior therapy? This therapy has been shown effective for borderline personality, suicide ideation, and mood disturbance disorders.

The general concepts of the therapy are:

Mindfulness: becoming aware of your behavior (very consciously aware)
Interpersonal skills: Coping with conflict and assertiveness
Distress Tolerance: Being not judgmental and evaluating pros/cons of situations
Emotional regulation: Identifying/labeling intrusive emotions

If you feel this might help you, I would absolutely recommend and suggest it.

Where can I find self-help for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I do not have money at the moment to afford seeing a therapist but recognize the fact that I have a certain degree of social anxiety and self-esteem issues. I tried searching google and have found research articles, but was hoping someone could recommend a sort of ’self-help guide’ to CBT which will prove beneficial. Thanks so much!

Know that God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end — time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God’s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can’t explain the world’s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner’s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus’ name, amen." I’m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could check out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group as a good way to learn about God’s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.

Could I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to become religiously devoted?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

I am looking for a method to use which would help me devote myself to my religion. I know that I have used CBT to change myself emotionally (and of course cognitively) but could it be done spiritually?
I am not asking if religion is rational, by the way. I am wondering if CBT could be used despite the fact that it might not be.

thats called brainwashing :) lol, which is fun! in theory yes u can. catholic school does it best(lol),work with a religion everyday. idk what religion u wish to choose, but here u go. read their bible everyday, research the religion everyday, keep the religion a part of everyday, devote some time everyday to it.(before bed sounds nice). it seems sound,it may be some off, been half a year since social psych.
