Thursday, February 18th, 2010My husband has recently been diagnosed with gen. anxiety disorder with panic attacks and there is a tobacco barn in our small town which is irritating his allergies he took the cough med. Delsym and it aggravated his anxiety. Help what can he take?
I usually take claratin and it doesn’t react with my anxiety medication. However, everyone is different. The best thing to do is to talk to your dr before trying another medication. Especially if he is on prescription drugs, the worst thing to do it have them comflict.

How do you date someone with an anxiety disorder?
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010The guy I’m currently dating told me he has anxiety disorder and takes xanax for it. I really like him and I need to know how to handle this kind of behavior. What should I expect and what can I do to help?
I have a friend who has anxiety and takes medicine for it also. Its really not that big of a deal. As for what to expect: Sometimes when my friend gets really anxious, he has a hard time breathing. He just gets a drink of water (or whatever is near), sits down and takes deep breathes. We usually help calm him down by patting his back or making jokes. I haven’t ever seen him have a serious panic attack, but i heard they are pretty bad. In which case its kind of out of your hands. The most you can do is try to relax him with a soothing voice and rubbing his back or something. But honestly, unless he is worse than my friend, it won’t effect your relationship too much. If hes easily triggered, then it might be a different story but if he has it well controlled like my friend, you will barely notice it.
How can I deal with Generalized Anxiety Disorder?
Sunday, February 14th, 2010I just discovered I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and I don’t know what to do. I have fatigue and my body hurts all day long. I’m very shy and have no friends and get mad very easily. I feel really depressed and feel alone. I heard that I need to exercise more often and try a relaxing activity like yoga. But what else can I do? How long will it take for me to heal? I’m 15 years old.
First off, if you really want to get better, you can start by trying the advice you’ve already been given. There is no magical cure for GAD or overnight fix. You are young, so I can understand you impatience and wanting a quick fix. But the longer you search for one–the longer you will be putting off what really works.
There are also other tools to help besides medication. Since you don’t have a specific phobia, it’s harder to pinpoint a trigger. However, anxiety feeds anxiety. You should try to identify negative thinking trends and focus on dismissing negative thought. You can, I know because I have along with a countless number of other people.
It takes commitment to getting better. Do searches on positive affirmations and RBT.
The most important thing is to commit yourself to change and understand that it will take time. Don’t waste your time looking for quick fixes–some work–such as medications, but it’s not a permanent solution and you will become dependent if you don’t address your core issues. You have an opportunity to change the direction of the rest of your life. Put in the work now so you won’t regret it later.
