Can Panic attacks/ anxiety attacks cause discoloration of your fingernails?

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

I’m just curious because I’ve had a lot of panic and anxiety attacks and just noticed that my finger nails have an off-white line across them and a bit of a dark purple color just under that. So is this caused by panic/ anxiety attacks or is it something more serious than that?

Discoloration of the fingernails is usually caused by a variety microorganisms. However, it can also be the panic attacks, they pose many risks to the body’s immune system. Anyway, you should see a doctor and get examined. If you want to treat the panic attacks you can try this site for a natural method: http://tinyurl.com/ylkuwhx/panic

How can I prevent anxiety attacks?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I’ve just started experiencing anxiety attacks 2 months ago,and I hate them a lot.I’ve been to the hospital twice so far. They usually happen at night. How can I prevent them from happening? WITHOUT MEDICATION. Please help.

At the first sign of one, employ an ANTI PANIC ATTACK breathing technique. Advice from a published psychiatrist on controlled breathing: (1.) Get a clock, or watch with a second timer. (2.) Practise for 5 minutes, 4 times daily, until proficient. (3.) Take a small breath in, and hold it, for 6 seconds. (4.) Think to yourself: "RELAX", just before breathing out. (5.) Try to feel a sense of releasing tension, as you breathe out. (6.) Breathe in for 3 seconds, then out, for 3 seconds. Try to make your breathing very smooth, and light, as you breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth, or nose. (7.) For the next minute, continue to breathe in, and out, every 3 seconds. (8.) Go back to step 3, at the end of the minute, and proceed through to step 7, doing this for 5 minutes. Use this at the very first sign of a panic attack starting, or any time you feel anxious, or tense. Similar, but simpler advice, from a clinical psychologist is to breathe in to the count of 3: (one thousand one; one thousand two; one thousand three) each takes around a second to say to yourself, in your mind, and out to the count of 3. Also see http://deeplyrelax.com & www.deepsloweasy.com/html/intro.htm

Note: the controlled breathing only helps with the symptoms (as do medications/herbal remedies): you need to address the underlying cause, which requires some form of therapy, and Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy has been shown to be effective. Imagine that the cause of your panic; your anxieties, fears, your self doubts, self recriminations, all the agonizing "I’m-so-Stupids"; every painful "I-can’t-do-it" are huge raging, hurtful bulls snorting and charging at you. You see them coming at you and you hold out your red matador’s cape at arms length and simply let them charge right by. Every time they come at you, hold out your arm with the red cape and let them rage and snort and go right on past. Some people recommend nettle tea, with a little honey. Others use Lavender tea, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, but use no milk or cream with herbal teas, or Valerian (caution: its use may become habitual). Know how these affect you before driving, or doing anything dangerous, and it is far better to use the treatments, rather than relying on herbal remedies. There is a free online PANIC COURSE at www.panic-attacks.co.uk and it is also available by email. Well worth a look, too, is the section on panic attacks at www.mind.org.uk which they also have in booklet form.

I keep getting them more and more, I told my doctor but he really didn’t seem t care to much. Did you have anxiety attacks?

I have had three so far. It starts out with a stressful thing like an overdue bill and I start crying then I can’t stop crying then I can’t breath and I start freaking out before you know it i am on the floor rolling a roind like a lunitic screaming. The only thing that can calm me down is my hubby he hugs me and rocks me like a baby and breaths with me. I have never done anything like this before it makes me feel kinda crazy. The doc said just do what I am doing but it scares me that I am going to hurt the baby.

Good Luck!

You want to know what is worse than having anxiety attacks?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Not having any Anxiety attacks or anxiety about anything. Being so numb to everything around you. I don’t know if it’s God giving me the the gift of calmness during hard times, or if it is the numbness of depression. Either way, it scares me that i am not upset, sad or mad about current happenings.

There is a lot out there – one person cannot solve it all.
We can all just chip away.

Worry does not solve anything. Action does.

Be good. Do good. Find God.
You will not be depressed.

When I was 12 my daddy died and I had to hunt and fish for my family to eat (I was the oldest); instead of begrudging my fate – I actually started enjoying it. I love blasting guns!

You should be accepting of current events and trying to do the best you can. Even giving food through FeedingAmerica.org or similar group.

What are some techniques to overcome anxiety attacks / hyperventilating?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

2 years ago; I was lying in bed ready to go to sleep and all of a sudden my heart started racing then I started to panick and felt as though I could not breathe. My parents helped me to relax and the anxiety attack passed. Since then I went to the doctor and she told me to try breathing into a paper bag or focusing on a still point and to concentrate only on my breathing. I have not had an attack since then; although my heart does race and I am scared to have another one. My heart races at night before I go to bed and when I fly (when the plane is taking off). Does anyone experience anxiety and/or know any ways to avoid it and techniques to manage the thought process to try and relax if your heart races? Thanks!

Try using a relaxation technique. The one I use focuses on relaxing your entire body, one part at a time.IFirst I lie down (you can do this while sitting too). I start at my toes and I tell them to relax; I consciously release the tension from the them. Next I move to my entire foot, then my ankles, and so forth until I’ve relaxed every part of my body. It helps to exhale every time I release tension.

Hope this helps.

How do I know if im having Anxiety attacks or there is something wrong with me?

I asked another question here on yahoo about how to calm down from anxiety attacks and they told me to first of all make sure that they are actually anxiety attacks. Like they said my body could be trying to survive from low blood sugar levels or something..

You are having an anxiety attack when you heart starts beating really fast and you get sweaty, have a hard time getting your breath, feel nauseous, and have chest pains.

What causes anxiety attacks, it felt like i was going to die?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I experienced a frightening anxiety attack – I think only those who have experienced one will know what I am talking about. I truly thought I was going to die, that I was losing consciensness and was too weak to even call 911. I just laid on the bathroom floor. It was so scary and I am scared if it happens again. What triggers it and what does it mean? Does it mean I have a mental problem and need to be on meds?

What you must know about panic attacks is that YOU CANNOT DIE!! This is very important because for a long time I too thought that I was going to die/lose consciousness. but if there is no physiological explanation for your symptoms then you have nothing to worry about.. You need to realize that you are in control and that you cannot physically pass out during a panic attack. When you have a panic attack in most/all cases your heart rate and blood pressure are elevated and the only way you can faint is if your brain isn’t getting enough blood/oxygen so when your heart pumps faster your brain is getting more blood circulation. This does not mean that you need to be on meds… It is scary yes but harmless and if it happens again you will now know that it is all in your head… there are many different triggers for panic attacks but at the main root of these attacks is stress… in order to combat this try to do things that relieve stress such as rigorous exercise or for me playing video games… good luck and just remember you have control of your body and your mind

How do I stop anxiety attacks?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I am 12 years old, and I have been having anxiety attacks since I was 7 or 8. I go to a psychiatrist every couple of months, and sometimes a few times a month, but sometimes that doesn’t help. Do you have any way that I could take my mind off of what’s causing the anxiety, or just relax? Thanks for your help!

I know this sounds like a hard thing to do. But if you will focus on the things you can change and do not worry about what you cannot change your attacks will become less and less. Take baby steps doing this. It will help. Been there done that.
