How to control my anxiety and panic?
I’ve seen a psychologist about anxiety and panic. He put me on xanax and lexapro, both make me feel like a zombie. Any way I went in for a job interview yesterday and started to feel very anxious and panicky, more than normal. I left the business as fast as I could without being interviewed. I felt much better when I was out but I feel like this is starting to control my life. Any advice or suggestions on how to fight this?
Exercise helps a lot.

I think the Xanax is too much. Lexapro should do it. Breathing exercises, physical fitness and soothing thoughts help to keep you calm. You have to convince yourself that there is no reason to panic.

Hey! Ive been in the same position several times. When I was younger, I had huge panic attacks because of family life. My mom put me on xanax and suprisingly it helped? I only took half of one though. I use to take it all the time…but, as I got older I didn’t need it anymore. It wierd. All I can say is hang in there! take what you think might fight these panicky amd anxious moments. Some more advice that helped me get over it was the saying: The only way to beat your fear, is to face it and overcome it. Hope this helps and good look bud!

First of all, and I’m not sure you will grasp this: you have already allowed these conditions to possess you by calling them "MY anxiety and panic". You gave and continue to give them placement in your life.
Unless a biological chemical imbalance is the cause, then drugs are NOT the answer.
The reason psychologists are so prone to dole out medications, is because they are supposedly a quick-fix. To get to the source and root of people’s fears and problems takes a good deal of time and commitment. Time and commitment don’t necessarily fit in well into business these days.
Another point to look at is what is your bottom line? What I mean is, what or who do you believe in?
I believe in God, and am a born-again believer in Jesus Christ. I went through several years of serious depression, and prayed about it to what seemed like no avail, but I hung in there. I didn’t drop God because I wasn’t getting my prayers answered in the timeframe and manner I thought it should be. The day finally came when God answered my prayers with a plan that I was finally ready to accept: renewing my mind. In otherwords, replacing old patterns and feelings with new ones. The new ones came from the Bible. It was a long, hard fought battle, and I do not mean to simplify it, but victory came. I had to overcome strongholds by replacing them with what God says about a matter.
I finally have peace of mind and heart, and I know how to fight attacks when they do come, and I win them very quickly.
Do with this advice what you will, it’s your choice. I am just committed to telling people who are desperate how I got the victory and overcame. If you want to go it another way and try anything and everything but God, then that’s your quicksand to deal with.
I will tell you this, if you commit to God, you cannot dictate the route He takes you. You cannot demand timeframes, you just trust Him no matter what and you stand on it. You start learning what He says about issues, and incorporate it into your thinking.
This is what brings the peace that passes all understanding. I know, because I live it.
Your choice.

One thing you might try instead of prescription drugs is a combination of physical activity which will produce natural hormones that will help chill you out along with an attitude adjustment when you’re facing your fears.
Instead of running away from these feelings and scenarios like you did with your job interview, you should try to confront them. There just thoughts within your head. It’s your head. You own it. So own the thoughts. See them for what they simply are. Thoughts.
Not evil doers hiding around the corner about to take you down. They’re not there. Nor are they in the interview room. The only thing that was waiting for you there was possible opportunity. I’d fear lost opportunity more than a measure of discomfort or potential embarrassment around someone you’ve never met and may never again. So, get over it and kick embarrassment’s butt. You’re more valuable than it is.
