what is the best treatment for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)?

I need a medication that has been well tested and confirmed to have none or very little side effect

You ask too much. Begin with psychotherapy and ask a doctor for a tranquilizer

Different medications work differently for different people. Usually, finding the right one is a trial and error process with your doctor. Also, the side effect profile will be different with each person. Be patient, and check with your doctor.

I was diagnosed November of last year (self Diagnosed) I did a ton of independent research into Medication before taking one. I chose Celexa. Lexipro is similar. They are the new "clean" breed of SSRI’s. I was worried about the sexual side effects and these are the best. I have had no problems. It takes about 4 weeks o show it’s effect so be patient. I also quit drinking, which I think is very necessary if you want to change your life. I exercise like a madman and eat right too. My life has changed dramatically in the last year for the best. You can beat this I promise! Stay away from Paxil and Prozac! Xanax too.

All medications have adverse effects. Anxiolytics that have relatively fewer adverse effects are BuSpar (buspirone), Librium (chlodiazepoxide), Tranxene (clorazepate dipotassium),Valium (diazepam), Vistaril (hydroxyzine hydrochloride and pamoate), Ativan (lorazepam), and Serax (oxazepam). There are other meds that have an unlabeled use for anxiety but I’m too short of time at the moment to make list for you. I suggest you speak to your health care provider for the very best advice.

No offense to anyone who truely thinks that they have an anxiety disorder. But……..the only way to get over your "anxiety" is to face your fears and get on with life. You are not only doing this to yourself, but you are affecting others around you, that is being very selfish.

My mom’s doctor told her that she was having anxiety attacks and gave her a medication to take. She took it for a little while until she realized that she was doing herself and everyone in her life no good. She faced her fears and she is now doing wonderful. And by the way, she was afraid to drive. After my dad was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer, she understood and realized that she was going to be no good to him if she didn’t conquer her fears of driving.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself, face your fears and get on with life.
