going to a general practitioner about anxiety/depression?
I’m going to my GP for my anxiety/depression.
Can anyone give me an idea of what he will ask?
Also, will I be given medication or will I just get a referral?

Thanks in advance.

i do the same thing, and when i go, just tell them you have been feeling down and you think you are depressed, and just tell them what symptoms you have to make you think you have anxiety problems and depression (ex. you cant sleep, racing thoughts, feeling blue all the time..etc) and they will more than likely prescibe you a SSRI antidepressant and sometimes they will give you a benzo for anxiety. I have always been prescribed from my general practitioner, and never given a referall, but if you request that they do that they may…

If I were you I’d go in and tell him your symptoms, have him go some blood work to make sure you’re not having a Thyroid problem and ask for a referral to a psychiatrist.
You could ask for a RX for Klonopin to help with the anxiety until you can see a psychiatrist.

The expertise of your general practitioner will determine whether or not he will be able to treat you in a suitable manner. If he is not able to do so you will be able to ask him for a referral to another physician be it a psychiatrist or professional such as a psychologist. The psychiatrist would be the one who would be able to prescribe a medication that would be effective to you and only you as a separate entity so that you would be to have treatment as well as follow up with that in regards to the result you have from the prescribed medication. Don’t be afraid to ask for further help or a referral from your general practitioner when you do see him or her.

For your anxiety:
Try Byron Katie. Her worksheets are on her website and her videos are on youtube.
Try reading Patrick Holford’s "Low GL diet" – blood sugar imbalances can cause havoc with your body and symptoms include depression, mood swings, tiredness, drowsiness after eating, cravings for sweet foods, headaches, heart palpitations, anxiety, irritability, agrressive outbursts, crying spells, excessive sweating, dizziness and trembling. Read Patrick Holford’s "Low GL diet"
http://www.foodforthebrain.org is a charity and it has a free questionnaire you can fill out in order to get feedback on what you might be lacking in your diet.
For example, if you are lacking in Vitamin B, You can suffer the following symptoms: Feeling unreal, Hearing your own thoughts, Anxiety and Inner tension, Inability to think straight, Suspicion of people, Good pain tolerance, seeing or hearing things abnormally, having delusions and frequent mood swings. Read Patrick Holford’s "Optimum Nutrition for the Mind"
Also, I cut out gluten from my diet and all the ‘mental noise’ has completely calmed down. This has really really helped.
(There is a theory that some people suffer from leaky gut syndrome, the wheat goes through the gut and straight to the brain, acting as a drug, which can make you feel ‘crazy’ with thoughts.)
Keep two journals. One for writing down all your feelings, this is really good for clearing out your anxieties and getting all your war onto paper, you can delete it straight after if you need to, it’s just good to really see your stressful thinking. And the other can be your gratitude journal – write down all the things you are grateful for that happened today.

GP will give you drugs according to an easy manual they have been given by pharmaceutical companies to sell more or he sends you to a psychiatrist who will 100% give you drugs.
