Can an ordinary doctor prescribe an anxiety/depression med?
Or do I have to visit a psychiatrist? And can I just tell the doctor about my problem during a normal checkup, or what would be involved?
Totally broke here, so $150 per session at a psychiatrists is not an option here.
no doctors do all that.
however i am not at all saying you dont need them
but lately in todays society doctors are just like; here take these… they dont really try and look into what may be the problem…however ive never been to a psychiatrists. so who nos maybe all are like that. im just saying this because ive been there. and the side effects can be dramatic if its what really what you need.

i hope that made sense.
and i hope you are okay.

yes, your regular family doc can give you a script for depression or anxiety meds . Tell your doc when you see him or her. It’s not a big deal. They take care of the whole person, mind and body.

you can totally get antidepressents from your regular doctor. if it doesn’t work for you, or if you want a more specific diagnosis… that’s when you see a psychiatrist. But it is actually very common to get help for depression from your doctor. It’s a growing problem. And i’m in that boat with you! woohooo!!! zoloft!

Yes, you can tell your family Dr of your anxiety and depression during a regular check-up.
Family Dr’s, general practitioners, have a general broad knowledge of anxiety/depression and do have access to prescribe psych medications. Some of the GP Dr’s are uncomfortable in prescribing psych meds though, feeling that you would be better served by a specialist/ psychiatrist.
Consider contacting your County’s Mental/Behavioral Health Clinic, inquiring of where you might gain such medication for low cost. – they often have a "sliding scale fee" for services or can supply you with drug "samples".
When you gain your prescription, considering your financial difficulties, ask for a generic — Walmart, Target, and some grocery stores offer many generic medications of all types for only $4 per prescription.

Your doctor can prescribe antidepressants for you, mine did.
She recomended that I see a psychiatrist because it would be best if a doctor who deals with psychiatric meds monitors my progress.
