How do i get the doctors at an E.R to treat me for an anxiety attatck.?

I currently have no insurance and i recently went to the hospital to get treated for my panic attacks and they told me it was not life threatning. Any advice as to what i should do being that i don’t have any insurance or medicaid.

The ER will only take in mentally ill patients who are suicidal.

What you need to do is find a free or sliding-scale mental health clinic. You can find information about this online. Your county will also have information.

You can walk in to any of these clinics and tell them you are having a panic attack, and they will take care of you. They can also get you medication free or at a reduced cost.

As an alternative, you can find a clinic in your area with a sliding-scale fee. For the first visit, they are usually willing to either not charge or charge a reduced fee without financial information, collect it later, and adjust what you have to pay.

It is possible to do this without insurance or medicaid. It’s what my entire family and most of the people we know do.

What you can do is learn to deal with them like the rest of us do.

Maybe get a job and your anxiety will go down or away! You’ll get insurance, too, with a job. Or at least, a way to get money to spend on yourself in the ER if that is your best use of money. I don’t mean to be crass but a lot of anxiety is created when there is too much time to think about how we are "feeling". When you’re very busy, you just operate accordingly. Anxiety free. You’re probably very health (physically) so go out and use your body…working!

Too, if you spend as much time thinking and doing for others, your anxiety will go away.

My dad used to go to the ER every time he had an anxiety attack but they staff couldn’t do anything for him. I’ve also went to the ER for anxiety attacks beforer I knew it was anxiety several times and there was nothing the could do for me be hydrate me and refer me to a therapist. They are suppose to deal with emergencies and I know in the moment of the attack it can be terrifying and you feel like it is an emergency but most of the time it really isn’t. I don’t think they are suppose to turn you away even if you don’t have insurance though.
Did you try to get on medicaid? I really hope you can, nobody should be without insurance.

You don’t need to go to the ER for anxiety attacks. That is not what they are there for. Go to your doctor for med’s.

There is no point going to the ER for an anxiety attack as there is noting they can do and besides you will probably have recovered before you get seen. The best thing to do is to get a paper bag and breath slowly into it – it does actually work. If you have panic disorder where you suffer from attacks frequently (at least several times a week) then you need to see your GP who can prescribe you something like beta blockers or refer you for therapy.
