How can I cure separation anxiety in my dog?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

My beagle has severe separation anxiety. I cannot leave him alone without him howling nonstop for hours. It causes me stress because I feel like I spend as much time as can with him, but I have a life and have to be away from him sometimes for work and school. I am reluctant to get another dog as many people say because I don’t want to risk doubling my problems. What are some good ways to help cure him of separation anxiety, or at leas keep him from howling so frantically?

you can’t cure it, but you can help control it. make sure before you leave you take him outside on a strenous walk. get a crate and get him accustomed to it. once he’s comfortable it will give him a place he knows is safe and you’ll return. make the crate a safe and fun place to be. put things he finds comforting in it, as long as he won’t eat them. and don’t leave him in the crate for long periods. you’re best to put him in the crate in a room where you can dissapear from. don’t make a sound while he’s howling. once he stops even for a second return. do not make a big deal out of it. act like it’s the most normal thing in the world for you to be doing. keep doing this for longer periods until you get the desired reaction from the dog. consistancy goes a long way. make this a several times a day thing at first. start small and work up to longer periods. do not make a big deal out of leaving. just place him in the crate and leave. because it’s no big deal. hopefully soon he’ll settle down and be on a routine with things and know what to expect. and you are right, adding another dog is going to double your problem. the new dog will learn this is what you do when the owner leaves.

social anxiety?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

ok im guessing i have social anxiety , this has occurd recently well …. sins around january or at leest it wasn’t bad b4 then but now whenever im in the presence of friends (if a friend comes to my house even!!) let alone bars and clubs and shopping centres with my mates , which i currently cannot bare to do , i firstly get really jittery and nervous , i start to get warm and swet , i suddenly feel really sick and have to fight back being sick , then i get short of breth and fear i cant breath , and it as if i just look for an ‘escape rute for some wierd reaon’ afterwards when i calm down i feel drained of energy and i just want to sleep

is this social anxiety????? (baring in mind this dosn’t hapen any other time except when im socialising )

how do i make it stop?????

is this a common problem ??

how can i relax more i want to get on with my social life normally !!!!!!!!??????

dont worry. be happy.

i have a less severe form of this social anxiety, but it only happens when im out with my parents in public.

Alright so what you need to tell yourself and what ive told myself is no one gives a crap about me that people aren’t looking at me and making me feel weird.

btw just take some deep breathes and try to relax and think positive thoughts.

i have the same exact problem in bars/clubs when i grind with girls i get so nervous that people are watching me that i can’t even get a proper bon*r. yet when im home alone with her its like.. it doesn’t even compare.

sorry i digress. good luck and if u need anything else just ask..

How much will quitting smoking help my anxiety disorder?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I read that smoking leads you to be 4x more likely to have an anxiety problem. If you quit how much will it help out your anxiety disorder?

It will help tremendously. I have anxiety so any type of stimulant makes it much worse. I used to smoke for 10 years, I quit this past January and it’s cut down on my anxiety attacks by A LOT!! I dont drink a lot of caffeine and I take a multivitamin for the vitamin B which helps with anxiety. I also cut down on the alcohol because that will make you feel crappier more then anything!

Whats the difference between an anxiety attack and a panic attack?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I suffer bad anxiety and always have panic attacks…well at least i thought they were panic attacks. Someone mentioned anxiety attack to me today so i thought it was the same thing, but someone told me otherwise?

Anxiety attacks and Panic attacks are the same thing. There’s no difference. However, scientifically speaking, it is impossible for your body to maintain a state of panic for more than 30 minutes. That is because the parasympathetic nervous system will kick in and stop the flow of adrenaline through your body. Your sympathetic nervous system is what creates that "fight or flight" response in your body. Regardless of how horrible and vulnerable it makes you feel, and believe me, i’ve had panic attacks before, ones which are just terrible, they will end. Keep that foremost in your mind, and tell yourself, "I will live through this".
You will pull through. Im still dealing with my own, and its a long, uphill journey, but every day is a victory. Keep your chin up!

Dr Lason, vitamin B3 deficiency cause anxiety, depression, fatigue

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

For 30 years, Joan Mathews Larson, PhD has been treating addiction, anxiety and depression with natural supplements in order to correct the underlying biochemical problems which cause these conditions.

In this video clip, she tells how a deficiency of vitamin B3, niacinamide, can cause anxiety depression and fatigue.

She also notes that vitamin B3 can eliminate a kind of alcohol psychosis that causes paranoia and feeling quarrelsome.

Note: the doses of vitamin B3 used for this are several thousand milligrams, which is a much higher dose than is found in multiple vitamins.

Dr. Larson also points out that anti-anxiety medicines such as Valium, Xanax, Ativan, and Librium attach to the same anti-anxiety receptors in the brain as vitamin B3.

She also notes that when the patent for Valium ran out, the drug company, Hoffman LaRoche, admitted that they got the formula for Valium by trying to copy the chemical structure of vitamin B3.

Imagine that.

“Niacin, vitamin B3, [ later she corrects this and says what she meant was niacinamide, which is the non-flushing form of vitamin B3 ] reverses a kind of alcohol psychosis that people who have been drinking typically have, where they feel paranoid, and quarrelsome, and may even have sensory disperceptions…

“Niacin [ niacinamide ] will turn that around completely.

“[ People with a vitamin B3 deficiency ] may look like they are schizophrenic, but they’re not.

“If you treat them… and at the end, we do all our testing again… that is always corrected.

“Niacin… [ I mean, ] niacinamide, which crosses the blood brain barrier, not niacin, binds to the same brain receptors that binds the benzodiazepines, like Valium, Librium, Ativan, Xanax, and so, it has anti-anxiety effects.

“And when Hoffman LaRoche’s patent grant amounts under Valium, they admitted that, where they got the formula, was from niacin.

“[Dr. Abram ] Hoffer the standard classification of anxiety neurosis fits into the description, perfectly, of initial symptomatology of subclinical pellagra, which is niacin deficiency…

“There is hyperactivity, [ anxiety ], depression, fatigue, apprehension, headache, and insomnia.”

Dr. Larson is the author of “7 Weeks to Sobriety”, “Depression Free”, and “7 Weeks to Emotional Healing”.
